Every nonprofit has a mission that is their north-star directing their every move. To accomplish a mission takes vision and this can be articulated by a road map.
As you build your IT infrastructure, a technology roadmap will guide future investments in software, hardware and personnel.
It also prepares a nonprofit for that “out of the blue” call from a funder looking to invest in technology for the nonprofit sector.
Then there is cybersecurity which you can read more about below.
Reach out and let me know if there is something I can help you think through free of charge.
I know a lot of players in this space so if I can’t assist you’ll at least walk away with a referral.
All subsequent meetings will be charged hourly.
Before I turn on the clock I will give an estimate of what the total engagement will cost.
There are processes for finding the right vendor for your IT needs such as a Request for Proposal (RFP).
I have managed over 80 vendors in the nonprofit space so I know who can do what, how much they cost, who has nonprofit discounts and how they compare to their competitors.
Getting this wrong can cause friction within the organization and loss of staff time and donor money. Trust me, there is a lot of value here.
In most cases, we can find a vendor in a few months with 5 hours of my time.
Estimate Duration: 2 months
Estimated Cost: $500
Software development is my biggest strength.
Every nonprofit has a unique mix of service offerings, processes and funders. At some level customization is required.
In the last 5 years I’ve managed over 10,000 hours of software development. This includes platform customization, report development, automations, and website development.
Sometimes people just need a hand or a second set of eyes.
In these cases I can develop the solutions myself or point you to the right resources.
These are typically 2 to 10 hour engagements.
Building an information system to manage assets, clients and reporting requirements will take design, project management and development resources.
I can assist or manage the design and project management as well as recruit resources.
These are long-term engagements lasting 2 months to a year depending on complexity and the rate of spend.
Nonprofits work with the most vulnerable populations in the community and to do this work we need trust. If clients cannot trust us to protect their personal information, it will be hard to accomplish our mission and their goals.
That is why government and other funders have established regulatory laws and policies to ensure that we give our best effort in the fields of information security (infosec) and cybersecurity.
I have worked with over 90 government, foundation and insurance infosec and cybersecurity rules and regulations. I can use that experience to help your organization reach full compliance.
Cyber security is a big topic with a lot of players so I like to start with a review of your regulatory requirement landscape.
For example, storing Personally Identifiable Information (PII) has its own set of regulatory laws that will depend on the state in which you operate.
Once that is complete we’ll do a risk assessment of identified vulnerabilities and then we create a road map to ensure compliance.
Some of the work will be in your nonprofit policies which will require board approval.
Another piece of the work could be software development or vendor management depending if you bought or built your software.
There is also the possibility of network and device vulnerabilities that will need tending to.
Almost certainly there will be modifications to training documents.
Without a doubt there will be change management.
If needed, I can assist in all these areas or help identify someone who can.
